The EIMS study (Epidemiological Investigation of Multiple Sclerosis) is a Swedish nationwide study which aims to investigate possible causes of the disease multiple sclerosis (MS). EIMS is the largest study in Sweden to assess the impact of both genetic factors and environmental factors on the etiology of MS.

The main goal of this research project is to contribute to an increased understanding of which factors cause MS. Such knowledge would greatly enhance the possibility of improving treatment plans for current MS patients and may ultimately lead to the prevention of this disabling disease.

EIMS is a multi-center study headed at the Department of Environmental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet. EIMS works in collaboration with 42 neurological clinics around Sweden and has complete national coverage; all the Swedish counties are represented.
